The Cannes Film Festival
Now in its 61st year, the Cannes Film Festival continues to excite the high-rollers of the film business. This year, however, economic uncertainty and panic in the industry are putting American film companies on edge, with the New York Times reporting that, “the excitement is tempered by a sense that those films are facing unusually difficult prospects back in the United States.”
Even so, stars like Julianne Moore and Jack Black are dressing up in their best digs for the red carpet to support their films “Blindness” and “Kung Fu Panda,” respectively. And where will the stars be shining after the curtain has closed? Anywhere and everywhere, considering the vast amount of sights, shopping, beaches and dining options at the feet of film stars and festival-goers alike. Here are some highlights of lovely Cannes:
Shopping: Names like Celine, Dior, Chanel, Lacoste and Hermes are just a few of the top designer boutiques that can be found in Cannes. Another French favorite, Comptoir des Cotonniers has a shop in the back streets, and open air markets are sure to draw foodies like Gwyneth Paltrow, a close friend of superstar chef Mario Batalli.

Sights: With lavish resort hotels lining the famous Boulevard d’Anglais and the famed Negresco Hotel crowning the strip with it’s pink dome, the stars will be out and about, seeing and being seen on this famous promenade. The warm waters of the Mediterranean naturally draw many to the beach, but renting a beach chair is something that Americans will have to become accustomed to.
